Carol Ann Schieber

Carol Ann Schieber, age 65, of Caledonia, Minn. died Friday, December 28, 2007 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Carol was born May 18, 1942 at the Caledonia Hospital to John and Apollonia (Welscher) Thillen. She graduated from Loretto High School in 1960 and then from Winona Secretarial School in 1961. On July 25, 1964 she married Joseph J. Schieber at St. Peterís Catholic Church in Caledonia. She worked for a short time at the Sprague State Bank in Caledonia and as a daycare provider, but was mostly a wife and mother.

Carol is survived by her husband Joseph of Caledonia; five children Debra (Michael) Jergenson, James (Patricia), Sarah (Ryan) Herman, and Robert (fiancÈe Kimberly) all of Caledonia, and Jane (Daren) Boe of Taopi, Minn.; ten grandchildren.

Four sisters Esther Felten of Caledonia, Sister Evelyn Thillen of Rochester, Melba (Ronald) Privet of Caledonia, and Fern (Dale) Richards of Brownsville.

She was preceded in death by a son Daniel Joseph; two brothers

Valery and John Thillen; and a sister Laurayne Vick.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at St. Maryís Catholic Church in Caledonia, Minn. with Fr. Gregory Leif officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Caledonia. Visitation was at 3 - 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 1 at Holy Family Hall behind St. Maryís with a prayer service at 6 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church. McCormick Funeral Home in Caledonia is assisting with arrangements.

Sam Smerud

Sam Smerud, 54 of Fargo, ND, died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at his home in Fargo.

Sam was born in LaCrosse Wis. on February 2, 1953 to Al and Lorna (Darling) Smerud. During his New Albin grade school years he was one of Shookieís boys and his love of baseball carried with him through his high school years at Aquinas High School in La Crosse. Third base was his spot there and in Legion Ball.

Sam graduated with a Bachelorís Degree in Nursing at Viterbo College and a Masterís Degree in Health Care Administration from the University of Minnesota. He worked for Banner Health Systems of Fargo as a Clinical Informatacist for many years. More recently he worked as an IT Consultatant for I.B.M. He married Barbara Wrights.

Sam is survived by his loving companion Rhonda Golz of Fargo N.D. two children; Sam Smerud of Edina, Minn. Jennifer Smerud of Colorado Springs Colo.; his parents; Al and Lorna Smerud of La Crosse Wis.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2008 at St. Josephís Catholic Church in New Albin, Iowa with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial will be in St. Josephís cemetery in New Albin. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. The Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing is assisting the family.
